A clean start saw great racing to the turning marks and onward to the open ocean - Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race © Rolex / Studio Borlenghi
The start is away for 2018, and as a quick recap; Black Jack Yachting started towards the boat end of the line but dealt with the tricky conditions best to lead out the heads from Infotrack, who started at the pin, followed by Wild Oats XI and Scallywag. Winning Appliances, the Carkeek 60 were fifth out of the heads ahead of Comanche; the "fat-bottomed girl" was very sticky in the building nor'easter.
Comanche has been quick to come back into the line honours lead with increasing pressure, and in a full echo of last year's overall results, Ichi Ban currently leads on IRC, after a very good looking run out of the Harbour and down the NSW coast.
We now also have two retirements; Zen TP52 due to rig damage, and Scallywag due to a broken bow sprit.
