This wicked-looking 36-foot center console with a revolutionary hull design is now under construction at the Front Street Shipyard in Belfast, Maine. The new SBX36, hull number one of the new Sea Blade X line from Navatek Ltd. of Honolulu, will be ready for sea trials in the spring.

The Sea Blade X hull is built of fiberglass with a foam core; the boat has a T-Top and an inflatable Hypalon perimeter tube. The stepped V bottom hull, with outer sponsons for stability, was originally designed for the military, and is being used by law enforcement in Hawaii. The boat being built at Front Street will be the first for recreational use. The patented hull is designed to reduce stress and pounding at high speeds for drivers and passengers.

The hull has a fine entry and a 25-degree deadrise at the transom. The boat can be powered by twin 300-hp Yamahas or twin 350-hp Mercury Verados. In its new pleasure boat configuration, it will have teak decks, a powder-coated aluminum T-top, and an acrylic windshield. The leaning post has bolstered adjustable seats and an aft-facing bench seat with cooler below.

"The Sea Blade X line puts the best performing rough-water hull ever engineered in the hands of recreational boaters for the first time," says Brian Brer, director of advanced planing forms for Sea Blade. "The SBX36 combines a truly revolutionary hull with yacht-quality outfitting. This isn't available anywhere else in the marketplace."

Specifications: LOA (including engines): 39'10"; Beam: 13'10"; Draft (hull): 2'3"; Disp.: 10,950 lbs.; Fuel: 300 gals.; Water: 10 gals.; Power: 2×300-hp Yamahas or 2×350-hp Mercury Verados.
