O’Pen BIC World Championships start next week

by Mark Killip 21 Dec 2018 10:51 PST 22 December 2018

It’s all heating up as the 140 entrants from local and around the globe are about to descend onto the Manly Sailing Club on the Whangaparoa Peninsula just north of Auckland CBD.

The junior skiff charter boats are all set with hulls and rigs checked and sails numbered with respective international flags – all ready for the arrival of the international teams. All is ready for registration starting on Monday. That is Monday 24th with briefing on Thursday morning, the 27th. Practice racing runs through the 27th and 28th with the races all counting for the “Worlds” from 29th through until closing on January 4th.

Highly qualified director and sailing legend Harold Bennett is busy “joining all of the dots” bringing the final pieces of the organisation together. The ace mark laying crew are primed and ready, the shore team primed and ready as well. The “buzz” is growing steadily and no-one in the loop can wait … bring it on.
