Phuket King’s Cup 2018 – a major hiccup in the programme.

After a day off, when the breeze continued just like the day before, there was plenty of enthusiasm to get going again for the fourth day’s racing. 0730h on the beach and the longtails were filling up, returning, and filling up again. Dunkirk in Thailand.

It was a classic case of “hurry up, and wait.” The 0900 start time came and went, and as far as the eye could see it was all as flat as ink. Glass-out. Nada. Nothing. Zero. And it was overcast, so no encouragement for the Russian contingent to go swimming. No swimsuit parades. No pink flamingos (so last year). No… anything.

Occasional hopeful radio messages from the RO; “We’re looking. We’ll keep you posted.” Sadly, it all came to naught, and at 1130 PRO Ross Chisholm put away the binoculars and hoisted AP over A on Course Alpha. Ten minutes later, and RO Simon James followed suit on Course Bravo.

So that’s all for today, folks. From being ahead of schedule at the end of Wednesday, the programme is now in catch-up mode, so fingers crossed for a decent blow tomorrow.

Standing by on 72.
