Young Endeavour: A parent's perspective

by Donna Davis 28 Nov 2018 20:07 PST
Voyage 20/16 from Esperance to Adelaide - Arrival © Young Endeavour

My son Brandon sailed on Voyage 20/16 from Esperance to Adelaide.

Brandon was provided with a scholarship for the voyage by the local RSL. I don't think he really knew what he was getting himself into, but once he got over the seasickness he absolutely loved it.

Brandon has always been a really good kid, but when he came home from Young Endeavour he was a lot more grounded and had more direction in his life.

It had always been Brandon's goal to be a mechanic. When he got back that December he was more self-confident and he went out and got his apprenticeship that month.

If another parent is thinking about sending their child on Young Endeavour, I'd say that if your child is lacking a bit of direction, going on the ship will do wonders for their self-esteem and help build their character. Young Endeavour is really an amazing experience for a young person.
