The ARC+ Leg 1 Prize Giving was held yesterday evening at the old fish market in Mindelo which now serves as a Museu do Mar sharing the maritime history of São Vicente. The crews where led by local dancers and drummers along the street from the marina creating quite a spectacle as they travelled through the town.

The SOS Aldeias Charity prepared the venue and provided the catering for the evening which was the local and national dish Cachupa. World Cruising Club makes a monetary contribution towards the party and that is our way to support the charity. Several participants also had the opportunity to visit this institution and got to see some of the great work that SOS does on the island with children and young mothers facing difficulties.

The yellow shirts team announced the prize winners for leg 1, inviting the crews to go on stage and collect their prizes. Full results will be available shortly on the Results Page.

The Prize Giving was followed by a fantastic display of local youngsters demonstrating their dancing skills, joined by many of the participants. The ARC+ crews have been embracing the local culture here in Mindelo since their arrival and a great night was had by all.

The excitement is building on the docks now for tomorrow's start of ARC+ Leg two, seeing the first of the fleets to visit Cape Verde sail away to Saint Lucia. Just ahead of their departure, Mindelo will be welcoming the first arrival of the ARC+ St. Vincent fleet, Amaman.
