WA WASZP State Championship at Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club - Day 2

by Marc Ablett 10 Nov 2018 14:03 PST 9-11 November 2018

It was a sensational day 2 for the 2018 WA WASZP State Championships with Perth turning on another stunning afternoon of racing for this exciting one design class. The championship has been split wide open with a lot of the sailors racing the boats for the first time. With a lot of fantastic sailors coming into the WASZP from a variety of classes, the standard is going through the roof with every race.

Tristan Brown holds a slender lead going into day 3 with Aaron Delongville snapping at his heals, however the big mover has been former Cherub and I14 sailor Dave Von Felton who showed some great moments on day 2, leading two races and unlucky not to claim that maiden win.

More great performances have come from within the fleet, young Tom Devine is proving incredibly hard to beat on his 6.9m rig, he sits fourth overall and has sat in second for long periods of races at times. Other young sailors going well are Jamie Bougher, Liam Seagreen and Griselda Khng all showing moments of brilliance.

It has been a real showcase event for the class, with great racing and spectators on the hill at Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club were treated to a spectacle of foiling with racing being held right in front of the club and its natural amphitheatre.

It is all to play for on day 3 with one point separating the leaders. With three Championship races to conclude the series, the fleet will then roll into the exciting Slalom racing which has become an exciting fixture on the WASZP racing schedule.
