Maiden began her two-year world tour to raise awareness and funds for girls' education around the world, on 7th November, leaving from The Royal Southern Yacht Club in Hamble for the first stopover to be held in India in December 2018.

Maiden gained acclaim as the first yacht to be sailed around the world by an all-female crew when they raced in the 1989/90 Whitbread Round The World Race. Maiden and her glass ceiling shattering crew paved the way for all women, but particularly those in the yachting world, including her new skippers.

As always, Maiden will be sailed by an all-female crew and throughout the journey, skippering duties will be shared by an incredible collective of record breaking female skippers. Nikki Henderson, the youngest skipper in the 2017/2108 Clipper Round the World Race, is taking on the first two legs. Wendy Tuck, the first female skipper to win a round-the-world yacht race when she won the Clipper Race this year, will take the helm in her home country of Australia.

Tracy Edwards MBE worked tirelessly to bring Maiden back to the UK when she was found abandoned and rotting in the Seychelles; Maiden has undergone an extensive refit over the past 18 months and has been restored to her former glory. Thanks to the invaluable support of HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, Maiden is sailing again and will help spread the message that every girl has a right to an education.

"Maiden changed my life and now she can help change the lives of girls who are not in education. Sailing on Maiden with a team of women proved to me that anything was possible and through hard work and following my dreams I could reach my full potential. Education can give girls that possibility to increase their life opportunities as Maiden did for me, my team and others who were inspired by her".

The Maiden Factor world tour will take in over 23 destinations in 13 countries where the skipper and crew will dock and meet with charities supporting equal access to education; community led educational projects; school children alongside a wider awareness and fundraising campaign.
