12th Classic Yacht Cup Regatta - Day 2

by Alex McKinnon 4 Nov 2018 23:07 PST 3-4 November 2018

The second day of racing in the 12th Classic Yacht - Cup Regatta organized by the Classic Yacht Association of Australia was held in very different conditions from yesterday. Race Officer, David Le Roy, from the host club, Royal Yacht Club of Victoria, kept the crews on shore with the hosting of the AP flag while we waited for the breeze to come in.

At 1040hrs the AP came down as the breeze slowly started to fill in. The first race of the day finally got under way at 1120hs in around 4 to 8 knots of breeze form the South. Course 11 with a distance of 7.6NM was selected. This race was shorted at R4 after about half the course had been completed. Mercedes II skippered by Martin Ryan took line honors and Avian Skippered by Roger Dundas was 1st on corrected time.

Race four got under way at 1345hrs with Course 7 having been chosen. The wind had moved East at a strength of 12knots, the clouds had cleared and the sun warmed everyone up. Race 4 went the full distance with Mercedes once again taking line honors and Fair Winds II getting 1st on corrected time.
