Race four of the Lymington Town Sailing Club Solent Circuit, sponsored by Pennyfarthing Homes, was sailed in extreme conditions on Sunday 28th October.

In a complete contrast from the previous week's flat calm, the few brave crews who ventured out on to the Solent experienced a bitterly cold northerly wind gusting up to thirty five knots and a choppy sea churned up by the wind blowing against the flooding spring tide. Limited by the wind direction, the race committee set a short windward leg to the Pennyfarthing Homes moveable mark, followed by a short reach to the Harken mark.

Classes one, two and three then had an action filled down wind leg to the island shore, followed by a tide assisted windward leg and a second run. The J80's and Folkboats sailed a shorter windward leeward course closer to the mainland shore. Despite the sunny weather, with the wind building to gusts up to force seven, the race committee took the decision to shorten the courses for all classes.
