The long-waited Fareast 28R World Championship finally set sails on 11th October 11am at crystal clear Fuxian Lake, Yunnan China.

Unlike the wind conditions of the practice race, the wind of the first race was quite stable and reached eight to nine knots. Philippine Sailing Association Standard Insurance team skippered by Emerson Ronquillo Villena had a good start with clear air blowing all the way. However with excellent downwind speed Wilfersail Racing Team skippered by Martin Tjeerd Hingst overtook the Filipino at the last downwind mark by catching a continuous wind shift and won the first race. Team RSA Magic skippered by Malcolm Buchanan Hall took the third.

The second race started soon, but the wind died down dramatically before the boats had a chance to arrive at the first windward mark. The race committee was forced to postpone the race, but looked for restart quickly. However the second start had to be postponed again due to lack of wind and too many shifts. After almost three hours waiting on the water, the second race finally started. Singapore Sailing Team skippered by Stanley Chan Hian Gee took the lead, followed closely by RSA Magic. Wilfersail Racing Team was quite stable and managed to get the third place.
