Rolex Sydney Hobart: Scallywag completes training camp in Phillipines

The SHK Scallywag team have just concluded a two week training camp sailing out of Subic Bay, Philippines, working up the supermaxi Scallywag ahead of the 2018 Rolex Sydney Hobart Race, and get the wrinkles out of the boat after a major refit.

The team are also bringing several new crew members into the program, several of whom have multihull experience - useful as the team work up their latest addition the ORMA60 owned by Sean Langman under the Team Australia moniker.

Team Sun Hung Kai/Scallywag, is backed by Hong Kong-based Seng Huang Lee and Sun Hung Kai & Co. and is Hong Kong’s first ever international sailing team. The goal for the owner and the team is raising and promoting competitive sailing in Asia, while building a long-lasting youth sailing legacy in Hong Kong in conjunction with the Hong Kong Sailing Federation.

The team has made history by being the first ever Hong Kong entry into the Volvo Ocean Race (2017-18 edition), also winning Leg 4: Melbourne to Hong Kong for Hong Kong’s debut stopover, as well as coming second place in Leg 6: Hong Kong to Auckland.

The team has the Scallywag 100’ (formerly known as the Ragamuffin 100) - the 100ft maxi yacht which was designed by Dovell Naval Architects, and was built by Syd Fisher. The latest addition to the fleet is the SHK Scallywag/FUKU (ORMA 60).

Joining the Scallywag team is navigator Miles Seddon, with an extensive background working in the Volvo Ocean Race with Team SCA (2014-15) and Desafio MAPFRE (2017-18), as well as sailing with Team Phaedo. He'll be navigating onboard the Scallywag 100' and the Scallywag ORMA60.

Phil Harmer is also coming aboard Team Sun Hung Kai/Scallywag. He sailed the last Volvo Ocean Race? with Vestas 11th Hour Racing?, and has previously made many appearances in the Rolex Sydney Hobart?, and the America's Cup?.

Pete Cumming, another Volvo Ocean Race veteran is also one of the newest additions to Team Sun Hung Kai/Scallywag. Pete is otherwise known as Pedro to the rest of the crew.
