52 Super Series Valencia Sailing Week - Day 2

Although the sea breeze came tantalisingly close to providing racing for the 11 boat TP52 fleet at the 52 Super Series Valencia Sailing Week, a long afternoon on the water proved to be in vain as the race officer sent the fleet back to the Marina de Valencia dock at a little after 1630hrs.

The lack of competition today works in circuit leaders Quantum Racing's favour. With a maximum of three days of racing left their overall lead of 26 points looks even better at the end of today than it did this morning.

"We always like to go racing. Any day we go racing is good. But with the points buffer we have on the scoreboard and the forecast we have, can we get two days with three races in? I don't think so. But at Quantum Racing we would prefer to win in on the water. And nothing changes in our approach. Every day, as Terry Hutchinson says, is the same as it ever was. We change nothing about our approach to every single day."

Two other teams were smiling though. Logistics partners Peters & May provided tickets for tonight's Champions League match between Valencia and Juventus to the boat of the day. As there was no racing the tickets were split between the regatta table toppers Platoon and Azzurra.

Standings after Day 2:

1. Platoon (GER) (Harm Müller-Spreer) (1,4) 5 pts
2. Azzurra (ARG/ITA) (Alberto Roemmers) (2,3) 5 pts
3. Luna Rossa (ITA) (Patrizio Bertelli) (6,1) 7 pts
4. Phoenix (RSA) (Hasso/Tina Plattner) (3,6) 9 pts
5. Alegre (USA/GBR) (Andrés Soriano) (4,5) 9 pts
6. Quantum Racing (USA) (Doug DeVos) (8,2) 10 pts
7. Sled (USA) (Takashi Okura) (5,10) 15 pts
8. Gladiator (GBR) (Tony Langley) (7,9) 16 pts
9. Paprec (FRA) (Jean Luc Petithuguenin) (11,7) 18 pts
10. Onda (BRA) (Eduardo de Souza Ramos) (10,8) 18 pts
11. Provezza (TUR) (Ergin Imre) (9,11+ 2 penalti) 22 pts
