Rhode Island Lt. Gov. Dan McKee presented plaques to the Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England Deputy Commander today, at the State Capitol building in recognition of Coast Guard Auxiliary Day.

Earlier this year, Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo issued a proclamation to the state marking March 10, 2018 as U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Day.

"We are honored to be a part of this ceremony, and we value the support we receive from our local Rhode Island communities," said Cmdr. Brian McSorley, Deputy Sector Commander of Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England. "Our Auxiliary volunteers are an important team player in accomplishing the work of the Coast Guard."

The Coast Guard Auxiliary was established in 1939 and is comprised of over 26,000 members nationally. Their main missions are to promote and improve recreational boating safety, provide trained crews and facilities to augment the Coast Guard, and support the Coast Guard through operational, administrative and logistical requirements.
