With Day Two complete and less than twenty-four hours until the next Melges 32 World League Champion is crowned, Matteo Balestrero's Giogi (Branko Brcin, tactician) overtook Germany's Fritz Homann at the helm of Wilma (Nico Celon, tactician) for the regatta lead.

Rounding out the podium positions is a new name and face to the fleet, Luigi Giannattasio racing Donino submitted a 4-3 scoreline today to move up the charts into third overall.

The second to last day of the 2018 Melges 32 World League circuit in Cagliari showed all signs that Balestrero's team is very strong. But, what seems to count the most is that he clearly appears to be poised to defend his position much better than his opponents.

With two additional races completed, Vincenzo Onorato's Mascalzone Latino (Paul Goodison, tactician), now ninth overall, struggled in Race Three, however came back for a sweet win in Race Four. Current World Champion Pavel Kuznetsov aboard Tavatuy (Evgeny Nuegodnikov, tactician) fell a couple of positions to now sit fifth. And, Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio racing G.Spot also struggled with a steep penalty in the last race of the day, leaving him in tenth. For these teams, to get back in front of Balestrero will be an uphill battle.

Only four races have been completed, producing four different winners (including Edoardo Pavesio aboard FRA Martina today in Race Three) - a sign that the fleet is quite balanced in competition. Considering this, and that there is only one final day of racing left, anything can happen.

The Melges World League is supported by Moby, Tirrenia, Helly Hansen, Garmin Marine, North Sails, Toremar, Norda, Lavazza, Rigoni di Asiago and Melges Europe.

Melges World League has signed and adopts the code of ethics of the Charta Smerarlda strongly promoting the values of One Ocean Foundation.
