When Joey Smith and his pals joined a fluke fishing tournament off the coast of Cape May Saturday morning they never expected that their catch of the day would be seven humans.
Smith and his group on Miss Addison II heard a mayday call from the Coast Guard around 9 a.m. asking nearby boaters to help a vessel in distress. They sped across a mile of ocean to help the sinking sports fishing boat.
"As we got there, the boat was about to go under," Smith, a Wildwood resident, said. The Miss Addison crew swung the back door of their boat open and "started plucking 'em out one by one."
