International Contender European Championship at Circolo Vela Arco - Overall

by Elena Giolai 6 Aug 2018 00:41 AEST 28 July - 3 August 2018

A beautiful conclusion to the Contender European Championship with suspense up the end of the final race. In the end the Danish sailor, former world champion and European Soren Dulong Andreasen, deservedly took the title.

Italy took silver and bronze with Marco Ferrari and Antonio Lambertini in second and third overall respectively. Fourth went to Davide Fontana and fifth went to the British sailor Graham Scott. Fiona Collins (GBR) was the first female.

Five days of sunshine and wind on Lake Garda made for a very successful event. The initial advantage for Italian Marco Ferrari was steadily eroded by Andreasen, the World Champion in 2013 and European Champion in 2014, and being able to discard his two thirteenth place qualifications (worth 52 points in total) and racing superbly in the final four races won him the title.
