Congratulations to all who competed in this year’s Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac® (CYCRTM), presented by Wintrust. The final results for the race known as America’s Offshore Challenge™ may be found here.
Family ties ran strong across the top of the Divisions, Sections and first-to-finish trophies, as 10 of the 23 winning teams are registered and raced by family members.
Challenge, a S&S50 owned by Kevin and Raymond Teborek, earned the Chicago-Mackinac Trophy, signifying overall winner within the “small boat” Racing Division. According to brother Mark, “Some people try for a lifetime to win the Mac and we’ve been blessed to do it this year,” he said. “To us, winning is secondary to spending time with our family and friends. The conditions were certainly right for our boat; and we were pretty lucky to have things go our way.”
The Santa Cruz 70 Equation, owned by Bill Alcott and Tom Anderson out of Bayview Yacht Club, took home the Mackinac Cup Trophy for the large boat category.
Top honors in the Cruising Division went to CYC boat Broderi, a Beneteau 40.7 owned by Robert, Brooke and Josh Kolar.
The Thornton's crossed the finish line first to earn the Royono Trophy, Il Mostro a Volvo 70. Peter and his son Chris are co-skippers, with Chris’s son Jack and cousin Brody, completing the three-generation combo.
“It has been an extraordinary year in our Race to Mackinac history with tremendous ups and downs,” said Sarah Renz, CYCRTM chair. “Congratulations to all who raced, and have stories to cherish for years to come. We hope to welcome you back next year for the 111th edition.”
