International Contender European Championship at Circolo Vela Arco - Day 3

by Elena Giolai 1 Aug 2018 14:13 PDT 28 July - 3 August 2018

Marco Ferrari secures his lead of the Championship with 22 points though there is other movement in the top ten, as the qualification series ends.

16 knots and two good races for the 130 Contenders, the single-hander which tried to supplant the Finn at the Olympics many years ago, but that remained for many a boat with great charm.

Marco Ferrari (Vela Club Campione), leading from the first day, is keeping very consistent results and also in the third day he is well defended, making two seconds, that made him fly for an increasingly important leadership: there are in fact 22 points that divide him from the second position, the British World Champion 2015 Simon Mussell, who managed to get back in contention thanks to a victory in the first race of the day, but followed by a tenth, which he discarded.

The fight is open especially for the second and third place given that there is another Briton, Graham Scott, now the protagonist of a 4-1. He climbed to fourth place with four points from second place Davide Fontana (AVB) with a 2-6 day, while the day ended down for Antonio Lambertini (YCDomaso, World Champion 2012) who - after discarding a 23 - has an eighth in the sixth race, but remains only six points from the second position.

The 2013 and European 2014 World Champion Soren Dulong Andreasen (Denmark) is still a bit too inconsistent in the results: he climbed back to sixth provisional position with a 1-13 of the day. It was a positive day for the Australian Richard Batten, who after a sixth has won the sixth and final qualifying race and occupies the eighth position overall.

Luca Bonezzi (Canottieri Mincio) closes the top ten with a third and 17th of the last two races.

At the Circolo Vela Arco continues the great work on the ground and in the water.
