Gosford Sailing Club has sponsored the resurrection of the Ton Yacht Association and will be the organising authority to run a "Quarter and Half Ton Regatta", to include all Quarter and Half Tonner production built boats and all IOR / JOG rated yachts which might have contested the original series in those years gone by (1965 to 1990s), and revised it for "the modern era".

Gosford Sailing Club announced that they will be holding the Australian Quarter and Half Tonners Championship in Gosford on the first weekend in February 2019.

To ensure everyone has an equitable chance of success on the race course, regardless of the vintage or size of their boat, the Championship will be run under the AMS (Australian Measurement System) rating. There will be the potential for divisions in each class based on age, displacement and rating to ensure the best possible racing.

The Championship will be held over three days starting with an 18 to 20-mile offshore race off Broken Bay on the Friday afternoon, followed by inshore racing on the Saturday and finishing on Sunday. The aim is to provide an enjoyable experience for crews racing both on Brisbane Water and off Broken Bay.

Club Commodore Paul Gulliksen is looking forward to the event. "We know everyone will have a great time ashore at the newly renovated Gosford Sailing Club," Paul said. "It won't be all about the racing, as a packed social program is being planned to include a sailors' breakfast forum, as well as guest speakers over dinner.

"Our objective is for everyone to enjoy the experience of racing these boats as a class again. Many of us have been lucky enough to have experienced that already.

"Remember the old saying - Its Twice the Fun with only Half a Ton".

The regatta Notice of Race and information packs are being compiled. If you would like to register an expression of interest to receive regatta information and newsletters, please communicate by email to Peter Walsh, Sailing and Marina Manager at
