Yann Guichard and his crew have won the first stage of the World Match Racing Tour 2018, in Marstrand Sweden. This is a first victory on the circuit for Spindrift racing who have only raced on the circuit for the past three seasons. This win demonstrates a good increase in form, which was underlined in the final race of the day against a good rise in power, like their last very last race against the British skipper, Ian Williams.

This tense final (3 Guichard / 2 Williams) ended a perfect week of competition for the French team. A successful passage through the qualifiers and well-managed match races, which saw them earn their place in the quarter finals without losing a single race, exemplifying the strong team work and great team spirit. There were many encouraging signs for the following g WMRT stages, with the main goal still being the World Championship in China.

Yann Guichard: "We had a fantastic week. Everything was came together for a great event in Marstrand: ideal sailing conditions, tactical race area, good competition, enthusiastic crowds and a very motivated crew. Since we first joined the World Match Racing Tour we have never stopped progressing. This first win is an important step in our game. This is very encouraging as, as well as Christophe and François we have just welcomed Matthieu to the team. He has had found his place in the team without any single training. We have found good coordination and how to move the boat quickly. This result is positive for the entire team."
