The 2018 European Championships of the Formula Kite Class marks the first event after World Sailing's decision to include Kiteboarding in the 2024 Olympic Games.

The event will be held from 08 July (registration) to 13 July (prize giving) 2018 in the Beach Arena of Warnemunde and form part of "Warnemuender Woche", a world renowned multi class sailing festival.

More importantly in the short-term, this event is the first opportunity for athletes to collect points for the qualification to the 2019 World Beach Games in San Diego.

For the first time, it will be possible for more than one competitor per country to qualify, with qualification per name rather than by county as this is the case in many other sports.

20 men and 20 women are eligible to compete in individual racing, with the currently registered Formula Kite equipment which will also be used in the Central American & Caribbean Games 2018, and the PanAmerican Games 2019.

The qualification will be based on the World Rankings as of 1 June 2019, and all Formula Kite events from 01 June 2018 onwards will count towards this qualification system.

The Notice of Race can be found here: formulakite.com/images/documents/2018_FK_Europeans_NoR_SI.pdf

Registration is open with immediate effect here: internationalkiteboarding.org/events/upcoming-events/120-2018-formula-kite-european-championships/individual-registration

The next opportunity to qualify will be the upcoming World Sailing Championships in Aarhus, Denmark, Interested sailors that have not yet registered for the World Championships should contact their national sailing association, or send an email to for requesting entry.
