Excitement is certainly building for the biggest one design foiling event ever seen, as preparations for the 2019 International WASZP Games move into overdrive. WASZP in conjunction with the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club are planning a stunning seven day event from the 22 - 28 January 2019.

The Swan River provides the perfect amphitheatre and race track for the second ever International event held by the WASZP class. With strong winds, flat water, beach party atmosphere plus the famous West Australian hospitality, this will be one not to be missed.

Over 610 boats have been sold worldwide since production began in mid 2016 and this class is becoming ever popular with sailors who are looking for something, different, fast, competitive, relaxing and fun. More and more events with good numbers are happening all over the world with boats in over 30 countries and strong racing circuits in approximately 15 countries.

Keep informed of up-coming events in your region through our WASZP Games events page

The Notice of Race has just been released and some of the key features include. The Australian Championships as a warm-up regatta prior to the event from the 18- 21 January, followed by a rest day for registration and a stand-alone Slalom event. We then look to the main International Games, including a qualifying series followed by a finals series due to the number of entries expected exceed well over 100.

The social side of the event will be an electric mix of beach party culture and a family friendly experience, with a Welcome party followed by a pre Australia Day party on the 25th of January and a lay day excursion to Rottnest Island on the 26th of January (Australia Day).

The fleet in Australia has seen a huge boost in numbers this season (only 20 months since the launch of the boat). Now there is 80 boats currently racing around the country. Majority of this fleet is in Victoria which is home to around 40+ boats, NSW has a growing fleet and in Perth there are 15 boats racing regularly out of Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club. With the expectation of another three container loads of boats (Melbourne, Perth, Sydney) to Australia before next years Games we are looking at a huge Australian contingent in attendance. At $16,200 for a new boat with everything ready to sail, there is no better time to book your slot in a container to have a boat for the 2018/19 season contact sales@waszp.com for more information.

European Championships

The European Championships will be held at Malcesine Yacht Club in Italy from the 28th June to the 1st of July. This is going to be a huge event (over 30 entries received already) and an opportunity to see how much the fleet has grown since the WASZP Games in August 2017. It will be exciting to see a fleet of 60-70 racing around Lake Garda, with a number of countries showing fantastic growth in the period since the last WASZP Games in Italy.

Prior to this event there from the 25th - 27th a coaching clinic will be available as well as clinics on boat preparation and maintenance. There will also be an owners meeting, an agents meeting and a presentation on the up-coming WASZP Games in Perth 2019. With the formats being refined all the time, the Championship Racing will be fantastic and other events such as the Slalom have been re-invented to suit the WASZP and create a fun atmosphere.

There are plenty of things to do in Malcesine so if you are looking for a holiday in Europe look no further than these dates.
