Leading voice for recreational boating David Lockwood passes away

by Boating Industry Association 10 May 2018 06:15 PDT

It is with great sadness that the Boating Industry Association (BIA) advises of the passing of David Lockwood.

David passed away last Friday, May 4 after a short illness. He was 51.

His family said goodbye at a private service on Tuesday.

David was a champion for the promotion of the recreational boating lifestyle and whilst his knowledge and published stories covered all spectrums of boating, David was the BIA's "go to" person for any support regarding boating with families.

He was a key and regular contributor to the annual Sydney International Boat Show - Sydney Morning Herald lift out. His presence at the Sydney Boat Show was assured, with his focused determination to see everything evident as he trolled through the halls and marina for days on end attempting to speak to everyone.

He assisted the BIA regularly in many ways. Visitors to the Sydney Show would see him from time to time on stage speaking of the virtues of the boating lifestyle, sharing his favourite boating locations and of course speaking about boating with the family.

In a story he volunteered for the BIA's MyBoatingLife website, he starts by saying "Open their eyes, open your minds and discover a love of family boating".

David touched an entire industry and many of us personally.

An industry representative close to David, is in contact with his family and is keeping the BIA informed. Any further information will be shared with the industry when known.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine, and children, Summer and Sandy.

The thoughts of the BIA's Board of Directors, Councillors, Staff and Members are, and will be with David's family.

Rest in Peace.
