The North East Youth Travellers Series continues tomorrow, Saturday 28 April, with two venues for competitors to choose from - Ulley SC in the south of the region and Derwent Reservoir SC in the north.

The series provides a great opportunity for young sailors in the region to develop their racing skills and is organised by the Regional Volunteer Team.

Each event offers a competitive yet friendly racing environment, with on-the-water coaching for those who need or want it to help improve their boat handling, speed and results. And the series tours the whole region - from inland lakes to the coast - providing a fantastic range of venues!

There are prizes for taking part in the overall series - and also for taking part in either the north or the south zones of the region for those who may not want to travel so far, with a joint prize giving at Filey SC on Saturday 14 July. All the details can be found on the RYA North East youth pages.

Forthcoming Southern Series (Yorkshire) dates in 2018 are:

  • 28 April: Ulley SC
  • 19 May: Ripon SC
  • 9 June: Pennine SC
  • 16 June: Scammonden Water SC
  • 14 July: Filey SC
The next up and coming Northern Series (Northumberland, Durham & Teesside region) venues and dates are:
  • 28 April: Derwent Reservoir SC
  • 12 May: Scaling Dam SC
  • 9 June: South Shields
  • 23 June: Tees & Hartlepool
  • 7 July: Kielder Water SC
The series proved popular in 2017 with youth and junior sailors across a range of ages and classes taking part. Competitors can simply turn up on the day but are also invited to register their interest to help clubs with planning and catering.

The series is ideal for those just starting out with their racing and also for those who want to hone their skills ahead of the big championships this season. For all competitors and their parents, a warm welcome is guaranteed!
