As the temperature starts to drop, there’s still plenty of sailing available around the country.

In Sydney, the CYCA Winter Series kicks off this weekend with the opening Jill McLay Ladies Day race. Commencing in May is the HBYC Brass Monkeys Series on Port Phillip Bay, and in Perth, the SOPYC 2018 Frostbite Series.

There are also plenty of opportunities for Women. The inaugural MHYC Women’s Regatta is being held on Sunday, May 6, the CYCA Winter Series kicks off and concludes with non-pointscore ladies races, and the Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta is taking place over the June long weekend at RMYS, St Kilda.

These are just a few of the many winter sailing events starting soon. If you’re a new or experienced sailor looking to get out on the water, here are a few of the latest sailing opportunities from around the country.

Available Crewing Positions:

Pascol Paints – Williamstown, VIC
Diamond, 9m, RYCV

The diamond class is a fast, fun and competitive one design class.

Pascol Paints is currently looking for crew as well as new partners interested in a share in the boat to help with ongoing maintenance and race costs, and of course to help race her!

Pascol Paints mainly race the summer Wednesday night twilight series out of Williamstown with a standard 4 crew; two on trapeze, one on main and the skipper. They are also interested in doing the winter series every other Saturday if enough committed crew are available.

Superfine - Sydney, NSW
Cavalier 350SL, 35 foot, CYCA

Superfine is a very competitive cruiser-racer, having won the CYCA Winter Series, Spring Series and Monday and Wednesday Spring Twilight series in her division, for 2017.

Her owner, George Waldthausen, has many years’ offshore and inshore racing experience, as well as being a Yachtmaster Ocean endorsed instructor.

George is always looking to add to his crew in a variety of roles – some racing experience is desirable. Superfine is competing in the CYCA Winter Series again this year.

Ninja Panda & Enigma – Beauty Point, TAS
NS14, 14 foot, PDYC

Skipper Brad is looking for a light weight crew to sail Sundays next summer at Port Dalrymple Yacht Club, located on the beautiful Tamar River.

Ninja Panda is an “aero 10” hull built 1998. Brad’s best results with her to date was a 6th place in the Tasmanian NS14 titles held at Midway Point Yacht Club in March, and a class win at crown series held at Bellerive Yacht Club earlier in the year.

Brad also has a Mottle 33 ‘Enigma’ – there may be opportunity for suitable crew to sail on Enigma as well.
