It took only one final race for Vincenzo Onorato's Mascalzone Latino to seal the deal and win in Forio d'Ischia, Italy at the opening act of the 2018 Melges 32 World League. Vincenzo Onorato and his tactician Paul Goodison, with crew members Stefano Ciampalini, Flavio Favini, Lorenzo de Felice, Daniele Fiaschi, Filippo la Mantia, Matteo Savelli and Davide Scarpe are 2018 Melges 32 World League Forio d'Ischia Champions.

"It was a fun weekend. It's been a while since we raced at Worlds, so we were a little bit rusty," commented Goodison post racing. "We had a couple of days training. We had good boat speed all week and the team did a great job getting us around the course."

"The level of competition is really quite high. There are some teams that have been here a while so they are up to speed. It's great to see a few new boats here and it won't be long before they are on the pace. It should be a really competitive season."

Finishing firm in second and third respectively was Matteo Balestrero's Giogi with Branko Brcin on tactics, and Fritz Homann's Wilma and tactician Nico Celon.

Fourth overall, Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio at the helm of G.Spot with tactician Michele Ivaldi finished the final race of the event in second place giving him a bump up in the standings.

Norway's Lasse Petterson on Pippa with tactician Matteo Ivaldi rounded out the top five.

Congratulations are in full order for 2018 Corinthian Melges 32 World League, Forio d'Ischia Champ Kilian Holzapfel's Homanit, his tactician Jolbert Van Dik and crew members Nikolaus Beulke, Albert Johannes Buitenhuis, Jeroen Hameter, Robin Jacobs, Maximilian Stein and Filippo Togni.

Thanks to all the Melges 32 teams who competed, Circolo Nautico Punta Imperatore, Marina di Forio, Hotel Villa Carolina, all the event partners and especially the Melges World League sponsors.

The next 2018 Melges 32 World League event takes place in Scarlino, Italy on June 1-3.
