Classic boat lovingly built from waste

Wooden boat building is a time-honoured process. Case in point is Wicked Wench, a 48-foot ketch moored near Scotland Island, which started life in the 1960s - and isn't quite finished yet. Sourcing materials, many discarded by the roadside, can slow things down a bit.

She began life in Blackwattle Bay and was started by a Dutchman called Henke - the Dutch know a thing or two about boats. The wood for the ribs and keel was sourced from the old wool stores that used to stand around the waterside in Darling Harbour.
