Get out and sail: Your weekly crewing update from MySail

One of the biggest challenges of offshore racing is organising to get the yacht from its home port to the start line, or the return trip after the event.

Delivery challenges, and lack of delivery crew, often hold yachts back from entering races and regattas they otherwise would have liked to attend. Although they don’t come with the glory of completing a long offshore race, yacht deliveries are a great way for crew to build their offshore experience.

A successful yacht delivery requires an experienced and competent skipper and generally one or more experienced crew, but can often afford space for less experienced crew members as well. This week we cover opportunities for those looking for longer offshore adventures, either races or delivery trips.

Available Crewing Positions:

Delivery - Sydney to Noumea Yacht Race
Multiple opportunities, CYCA

The Sydney to Noumea Yacht Race has been reintroduced this year, after a sojourn of over 20 years. The 1064 nautical mile race will start on Sydney Harbour on Saturday, 2 June, and ends in Noumea, New Caledonia.

At the completion of the race, many yachts will need delivery crew to help with their return to Sydney or their home port. You can register your interest on MySail to be found by yachts looking for delivery crew - Register Interest.

Wings – Newport, NSW
Dehler 46, 46 foot, RPAYC

Wings is a new Dehler 46 launched November 2017 for Lindy and Ian Edwards.

Wings replaces their Beneteau First 40.7 FireFly which has been sailing regularly at RPAYC and RMYCBB. They will continue to sail at both clubs in Short Offshore/Ocean and Blue Water Series.

In 2018 Wings is planning to race in the RPAYC Pittwater-Paradise Southport Race, CYCA Sydney-Noumea Race, enjoy some Pacific Cruising, and then the Airlie, Hamilton Island and Magnetic Island Race Weeks.

They are specifically looking for crew interested in the around New Caledonia Race, (which follows the Sydney-Noumea Yacht Race), delivery passage from Noumea to Airlie at the end of July, and delivery passage from the Whitusndays to Sydney late September.

Wings has built a great team over the last 2 years who enjoy sailing together, sail safe, enjoy the journey, and yes, sail as fast as they can. Most importantly, in longer offshore races Wings always has the best boat food!

Eleni TSA Management - Sydney, NSW
Sydney 38, 38 foot, MHYC

Eleni is a very well-sailed Sydney 38 which, along with her owner Tony Levett, has contested every Hobart since 2004. He finished 11th overall and fifth in Division 4 in 2015 and sixth overall for fourth in Division 3 in 2014.

This year Eleni is contesting the Sydney to Noumea Yacht Race and will be competing in the 2018 CYCA Bluewater Pointscore series. Eleni is looking for some competent crew to join her for the Sydney to Noumea Yacht Race, including at least one experienced helm and one all-rounder.

To enquire about racing with Eleni, please send the MySail team an email.
