On Sunday 29th April 2018 the Club's Team Racing Squad will be holding its seventh Impromptu Cup Team Racing Regatta in Crawley Bay.

The Impromptu Cup, while very competitive is an informal regatta and usually run twice a year to:

  • provide an opportunity for the Squad to test its skills in a regatta format;
  • showcase team racing to those who may not be familiar with this exciting style of close quarter sailing;
  • also provide an opportunity to get involved and assist in race management e.g. start/finish boat functions and mark laying in an informal atmosphere.
The Squad has been busy recently preparing a two boat team to compete in the Cumberland Cup Team Racing regatta being hosted by Royal Thames Yacht Club in Knightsbridge UK from 8-12 May 2018. The Impromptu Cup will be sailed in the Club's BW8 fleet and will see the Cumberland Cup team pitted against two other two boat teams comprised of Squad members.

The opportunity exists to possibly fill some crew positions should vacancies exist prior to the regatta and also to assist on a volunteer basis with race management, mark laying or anything else required on the day. While previous team racing experience is desirable but not essential to crew, you will need to be a competent and agile sailor as it does get busy at times. This is a great opportunity (and another excuse, as if you needed one) to get out on the water, have some fun and see some great close racing in an informal but competitive regatta. Your participation will also provide great support to the Squad in its preparation to tune up the Team to take on the British and other competing countries in the Cumberland Cup.

The regatta will run from approximately 0800 to 1330 on Sunday 29th April 2018 with presentations in Wardroom following completion of the regatta.

Should you wish to participate please email with Impromptu Cup in the subject line and "Crew", "Assist" or both in the top line.

The Team Racing Squad would love to have you out there as either a crew member or volunteer, or if in neither of those capacities, come out and be a vocal spectator of the Club's Team Racing Squad sailors!
