On October 10, 2017, a 79-foot commercial fishing vessel ran aground nearly a quarter of a mile off Kaimana Beach in Waikiki, O'ahu. The 109-ton ship, which was transporting international crew members to other longline fishing boats, wedged into a reef outcrop in water just 6- to 8-feet deep.
The vessel, Pacific Paradise, was unable to escape, and the concern from the public in the Pacific paradise State of Hawaii was palpable.
