For the first time Canberra Yacht Club Sailability held the ACT Hansa Regatta on Lake Burley Griffin on the weekend of 24-25 Feb 2018.

Sailors started to arrive with their boats at the CYC on Friday and set about rigging them ready for the weekend's racing.

Saturday's events started with a briefing from Terry Peek before the racing began with doubles in the morning followed by singles in the afternoon after lunch. Three races in each division were held back to back.

The conditions on Saturday were VERY hot and VERY windy. Some would find the wind too much, others would be challenged by it and others would be exhilarated by it.

On Saturday evening Rotary helped put on a BBQ dinner for all under our new Sailability CYC shelter, with some delicious salads made by Gerda.

Sunday dawned a very different day with pouring rain and much colder with a lake covered in fog and low cloud. At times it was difficult to see the buoys at the other end of the course. Sunday saw the singles held in the morning with the doubles after a BBQ lunch. Racing on Sunday felt like sitting in a cold bath with a cold shower pouring over your head, but there was good steady wind which made for great racing.

Overall the weekend was a great success with the Canberra Yacht Club making everyone feel very welcome and a good time was had by all. Prizes were presented by Sue Hart, Commodore of the Canberra Yacht Club, and Rob Regent, Sport Development Manager, ACT & NSW, Special Olympics Australia, presented the medals for the Special Olympics category. Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped make the weekend a success.
