After the success of the last edition, Barcelona will host the June 14 to 17 Act of the Extreme Sailing Series. The Fundació Navegació Oceànica Barcelona (FNOB), founded by the Ajuntament, Port, Cambra and Fira of Barcelona (Barcelona City Hall, Port, Chamber of Commerce and Trade Fair), will co-organize this event together with OC Sport.
The fleet will be based at the state of the art Port Marina Vela, a new location next to the Hotel W in the Nova Bocana area. The races can be followed from the coast of Barcelona as well as the Race Village that will be set up. Xosé-Carlos Fernández, FNOB CEO, explained: "The Extreme Sailing Series is no doubt one of the most important circuits in international sailing. It is a perfect complement to the Barcelona World Race, our two-crew round-the-world race. Thanks to the Extreme Sailing Series, we can keep the people of Barcelona connected to the emotion of sailing in a direct and accessible way."
Details about the set-up of the open access to the Race Village situated by the Hotel W and the activities around the race will be announced in the coming weeks.
The Extreme Sailing Series fleet will compete in seven other venues on three continents: Muscat (Oman), Riva del Garda (Italy), a Portuguese city to be announced in the coming months, St. Petersburg (Russia), Cardiff (United Kingdom), San Diego (United States) and Los Cabos (Mexico).
Established in 2007, the Extreme Sailing Series™ is the original Stadium Racing sailing circuit designed for spectators, delivering high-performance action close to shore. The circuit attracts some of the world's top sailors, racing the hydro-foiling GC32 catamarans on short and fast courses.
