34° Primo Cup 2018 Trophée Credit Suisse at Yacht Club de Monaco - Day 2

by Alexander Panzeri 10 Feb 2018 22:50 PST 8-11 February 2018

MeteoFrance has not been reliable. The weather had a surprise in the night, hitting the coast with a strong storm, and the day started with a crisp blue sky and chilly sun, Good for some soft shots and to re-order the stream of the air.

To the North-West, the Melges 20 and Longtze Premier fields, due to the small number of boat for each and the light breeze, had relatively calm racing, except for the first start of Longtze Premier where the Race Committee were obliged to restart with the Black Flag.

On the field to the South-West, in front to the Oceanographic Museum, the Star Class, Smeralda 888 and J70s were already fighting with more wind than the others. Competition was fierce, in particular for the J70 class with the largest number of participants this year. Towards the downwind gate, the battles brought touches of hulles, raised hands and voices, and red flags with the intervention of the Jury on the course. As the quote says, "a photo says a thousand words"...

In the Stars, the legend Roberto Benamati and his crew were fighting for top position as usual.

With the sun moving west for sunset, the light and the field became more dramatic to rise the show to magic with all three classes fighting side-by-side sometimes. All good for fans.

The forecast for Sunday? A good question, but this time it looks all are agreeing on a very gentle breeze with maximum gusts of 10 knots. Stay tuned!
