The Southport Spit Master Plan

by DILGP 10 Feb 2018 15:12 PST

The Southport Spit (The Spit) Master Plan commenced in August 2017 to provide for a low-rise future for The Spit in accordance with the Gold Coast City Council's current planning scheme. It is expected that the master plan will take 18 months to complete.

The master plan aims to revitalise The Spit and increase its benefit to the Gold Coast as a community asset. It will focus on enhancing the public realm of The Spit to create a community space for local residents and improving the connection to the surrounding marine environment, including the Broadwater. It will also consider opportunities for job creation through tourism, entertainment and recreation.

The master plan will be led by the Department of State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning (formerly the Department of Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning) and will be undertaken in collaboration with the Gold Coast City Council and the Gold Coast Waterways Authority.

Community consultation opportunities

You're invited to share your experiences of The Spit and aspirations for its future at a series of pop-up sessions throughout February and March 2018.

As the first step of The Spit Master Plan consultation process, our team want to hear your thoughts about The Spit – what you currently value, and what you'd like to see in the future.

Visit our pop up sessions page for more information including locations and times. Additional sessions may also be added.

The community will have many other opportunities to be involved throughout the master planning process.

To stay informed about the project and to hear about opportunities to get involved throughout the master planning process, please complete our online form.

Invitation to Offer (ITO)

On 9 January 2018, the Department released an Invitation to Offer (ITO) for a master planning consortium to work with the Department to prepare a comprehensive master plan for the Southport Spit.

Offers closed on 6 February 2018, and the Department is currently reviewing submissions with the intent to appoint the successful offer or in the coming weeks. The contract is expected to commence in late February 2018.
