Strong winds did not stop the Welwyn Garden City Sailing Club running their End of Year Pursuit Race on Saturday, 30th December.

Sudden 30-40mph gusts hit the competitors at regular intervals as they battled their way round the course at Stanborough Lakes. There were spectacular sights of speeding dinghies lost to view in spray and inevitable capsizes.

After two arduous ¾ hour races, Alan Campbell (Supernova) emerged as the clear winner with Commodore Nigel Davis (Supernova)second, Annette Walter (Comet) third, and Mike Caddy (Laser)fourth.

Members of the club turned out in force to cheer them on and all were rewarded with reviving glasses of hot rum punch and mince pies.
