A strong Cambridge Late 00s team proved victorious in the Oxford & Cambridge SS Generations Event held at Farmoor Reservoir on Saturday 1 October 2016 from an entry of 11 teams. It was a close-run thing with Oxford Late 00s losing out on a tie-break after fading wind prevented the final from taking place. The Generations Event is an annual fixture where teams of Oxford and Cambridge sailors from different decades battle against each other under a legendary and mysterious handicapping system.

The weather for the day was mixed, with light morning winds and some rain being followed by brilliant lunch time sun and a flat calm, to be followed yet again by afternoon wind, then thunderstorms, and then a final calm. In spite of the of the weather, a full round robin was run for the two leagues of 5 and 6 teams respectively, so everyone had a good day's sailing. With one team in each league unbeaten, and the wind fading, it was decided to move to a final between Cambridge Late 00s and Oxford Late 00s. Unfortunately the wind did not oblige and it was not possible to sail the final, so Cambridge Late 00s won on the tie break.

The usual very convivial dinner was held in Kellogg College that evening, attended by some 60 members and guests. A big thank-you to Lottie Rapson for organising the event, and to the many current Oxford sailors who worked so hard to make the day such a complete success.
