Wildwind Hobie Multi-European Championships - Series 2 Day 3

by Roland Regnemer & Simon Butterworth 1 Aug 2016 18:46 AEST 22-30 July 2016

Lake Neusiedl has not made it easy for the sailors at the 2016 Hobie MultiEuropeans. The day started with glassy conditions, the Hobie 16 Silver, Wild Cat and Tiger fleets were sent out after a short postponement but race abandonments were standard issue today as the breeze would not settle.

The 16 Gold fleet saw one of the worst meteorlogical events of the day as the breeze swung 180 degrees and remained. Another hard day's sailing but the competitors seem to be taking it in their stride with the "Simply The Hobie Way Of Life!" aprés-sailing - very much a theme at Wildwind too, one of the Championship sponsors.

Jacob Fisher and Sebastian Brüning extend their lead in the Wild Cats with today's results throughout the fleet being inconsistent and some surprises. All change in the Hobie 16 Gold fleet with France (Cedric and Laurent Bader) and Denmark (Daniel Bjørnholt and Josephine Frederksen) on equal points for the top podium place with yesterday leaders Germany (Ingo Delius and Sabine Delius-Wenig) dropping down to third. Consistency in very tricky conditions is the key but easier said than done! Final day on Saturday and the forecast is for similar humid and light breeze late in the afternoon - down to the wire for the competitors.
