GP14 Scottish Area Championship at Arran Yacht Club - Preview

by Michelle Evans & Arthur Logan 11 Jun 2016 07:17 PDT 18-19 June 2016

The Super 6 Series continues on 18 and 19 June with the six race Scottish Championships at Arran Yacht Club. The event is always popular with many making the trip from the Midlands and Northern area clubs to join their Scottish counterparts for two days of Celtic hospitality.

At a cost of just £35 competitors get six races and lunch on both days, there is also food available on Sunday night and a well stocked bar. The first race starts at 1.25pm on the Saturday with the briefing at 12.30pm. With plenty to do in the area, the sailing opportunities are only half the story though as Arthur Logan from Castle Semple Sailing Club explains:

"Do you miss the salty tang of the Caribbean Sea, or do you need to escape from your comfort zone and have an adventure? Taste the sea again off the west coast of Scotland, in the relatively sheltered waters of Lamlash Bay, surrounded by scenery to die for.

"Only a 55 minute ferry crossing from the mainland, with cheaper ferries than you remember, and every sort of accommodation you could wish for. The Super 6 Scottish Championship is hosted from the new clubhouse at Arran Yacht Club, sailing beside the spiritual Holy Isle and Scotland’s first No Take Zone. Watch out for the tide, and keep an eye open for whales and dolphins. There may be a wee libation and a bit of banter on Saturday evening.

"Bring your family and friends and have a few days visiting the Arran Distillery, Arran Aromatics, and Brodick

Castle. There are stupendous golf courses and beautiful hills. Go home thoroughly refreshed, with a few bottles from Arran Brewery, and not a rum punch in sight – just a few palm trees courtesy of the Gulf Stream."
