Kestrel National Championship at Brixham Yacht Club

by Stewart Murdoch 21 Aug 2015 09:33 PDT 15-18 August 2015

Sponsored by Hartley Boats and Craftinsure.

In summary, there were 18 entries. The event was quite remarkable for the closeness of the racing. I would defy your readers to recall any other event where the top four boats finished tied on equal points after seven races. The eventual positions being decided on a count back basis. Not only were the final positions close but every race was remarkable for the closeness of the finishes with boats crossing the line overlapped and places being won and lost in the 30 metre hitch to the line after races lasting over an hour.

The eventual winners class builders, Mark and Richard Hartley are no strangers to the Kestrel having last won the event in 2008. Runners up for the second year in a row were Paul Barnett and Robin Lamb with last years Champions Stewart and Mhairi Murdoch forced to settle for third and club mates Malcolm and Dannielle Worsley also from Royal Tay Yacht Club rather unkindly placed fourth despite having the same score as the winners.
