Solo Northern Travellers' Series at Rudyard Lake Sailing Club

by Dave Ernest 27 Apr 2015 05:37 PDT 26 April 2015

Rudyard Lake SC hosted the latest event in the Solo Northern Travellers' Series.

Perfect conditions with the sun shining and a 12 to 18 mph wind from the North West, straight down the lake.

Breakfast from the galley and willing assistants welcomed the ten visitors, joining eight local sailors, to our beautiful lake.

The Race Officer set a variety of courses making the most of the lake with all three races getting away first time with Andy Tunnicliffe (S5340) showing everyone else how it should be done, with three firsts, leading the fleet all day.

There was closer racing behind with Hollingworth Lake SC sailors Chris Massey (S4914) scoring a 2nd & 3rd and Oliver Whitehead (S4876) with a 2nd & 4th, finishing second and third overall.

Mike Raine, a Rudyard Merlin Rocket helm, borrowed a Solo and put his local knowledge to good use to finish the event in fourth and Mike Thomas (S4622) returned to the waters of his youth to end the day in fifth place.

The rescue boat was need at times to assist those caught out by the occasional gust and no doubt there were a few aches and pains the next morning. A great days sailing!

More photographs of the day will be available on the RLSC web site, www.rudyardlakesc.org.uk.
