RS Tera Sailors were welcomed to Great Moor Sailing Club on the 18th April for a Train and Race Event. The club had laid on perfect conditions and a very friendly welcome.

It was not unlike a Turkish water sports holiday, as the parents sat on the club terrace looking over the water at the activities of the young sailors with a nice selection of beverages.

A morning spent practicing, getting of the start line and up to a windward mark, was perfectly arranged by the club coaches and even the novice sailors achieved success in the challenging conditions.

In the afternoon the race officer laid out a simple course, but struggled to get the fleet away first time as the wind veered 90 degrees. Second time round and they were off. The squad sailors quickly established themselves at the front of the fleet but the rest of the sailors kept the focus and managed to all finish the first race as the gusts developed on the lake.

Two more races held back to back followed testing the sailors as the wind began to die down but maintain the occasional gust.

Nathan Lomas picked up a special coach's award for sailing with a broken kicker and still managing a second place finish in the Pro fleet.

Jonquil Oldham followed with an award for determination as she showed great improvement during the day.

Both Oakley boys ran out the winners with a perfect score line in the Pro and Sport fleet.

3rd Matthew Evans, Great Moor Sailing Club
