Welcome to the decisive day at the Fish & Co. Youth Sailing Championships in Singapore, when we find out who will taste podium glory. The top 10 athletes in each class are facing off in the medal races, whilst the rest get ready for a final fun race, which always has a surprise element.
Boats left the shore, anticipating another challenging day of light winds and shifty conditions, requiring the youngsters to deliver their very best on this last day at the Fish & Co Youth Sailing Championships.
Fish & Co. the title sponsor of the regatta is committed to supporting the goal of developing sailing among young Singaporeans, and encouraging disabled youngsters to gain confidence and empowerment through sailing.
The medal race course was set close to shore, giving a superb spectacle for the many spectators to enjoy the top level racing, with a close up view of the sailors' efforts. In the middle of the action, the fans also shared and celebrated special moments with sailors during the public carnival, held as a fun way to embrace everyone in the energy and enthusiasm of the entire Championship.
In the Byte class, the double points medal race upgraded Jordan Tan Rui to the bronze medal, as he managed to unseat Ryan Kwok from the podium. No change in the first two places. Samuel Neo had already secured gold ahead of the medal race, and a solid finish from Winston Yeo guaranteed his silver medal!
The top Optimist youngsters relished the chance to get a taste of Olympic Medal Racing, in a really intense battle. Incredibly close racing saw Raynn Kwok of Singapore secure the medal race win, not enough to give him gold, but he was happy with his silver medal! Podium glory to Singapore's Daniel Kei who knocked out an astonishing performance throughout the regatta.
An exciting medal race in the 420 class with a frisky breeze. Loh Jia Yi & Mathew Scott from Singapore scored their 5th win of the series, to secure the Championship crown! Singapore's Yukie Yokoyama & Samantha Neubronner finished second, to claim the gold top spot on the podium in the girls' division.
The Fish & Co. Youth Sailing Championships wrapped up with the same dynamic energy at the Medal and Closing Ceremony. Prizes & awards were presented to massive applause and teams are already looking forward to next year's Championship.
