Yare & Bure Open at Horning Sailing Club

by Holly Hancock 2 Sep 2014 05:22 NZST 30-31 August 2014

Horning Sailing Club's annual Yare & Bure One Design Open was sailed for at the weekend and attracted seventeen entrants overall, with several of these visiting boats from local Broadland Clubs.

Chris Bunn, crewed by Niki Tansley, sailing Fox pulled away to take an early lead on Saturday afternoon to take the first race of the series, ahead of Paul and Elise Carrington sailing Luna, and Richie Dugdale and Rob Whitefoot sailing Galium Hawk. In the variable winds on Hoveton Little Broad, an unexpected gust prior to the start of the second race caused almost the entire fleet to be over the line at the start, resulting in a general recall. On the restarted race, Chris Bunn took his second win, ahead of Flip and Gilly Foulds sailing The Miller.

Sunday's racing saw two more competitors take part. A further win secured Chris and Niki the Tortoiseshell Tankards for the fifth consecutive year, whilst two wins on Sunday for Paul Carrington put him in second place, with Richie Dugdale third after a consistent performance of four third places.

Overall Results: (top three)

1. Fox (C Bunn/N Tansley)
2. Luna (P Carrington/E Carrington)
3. Galium Hawk (R Dugdale/R Whitefoot)
