Senior Dinghy fleet at Dartmouth Week

by Paul Honey 28 Aug 2014 21:12 AEST 23-26 August 2014

Dittisham Sailing Club welcomed over 40 boats for this event that was held from the 23rd to the 26th of August as part of the 170th Port Of Dartmouth Royal Regatta. The competitors were treated to a great variety of conditions on this beautiful stretch of the River Dart, ranging from a beautiful F3-4 and bright sunshine on the Saturday, a flukey F1-3 on the Sunday, a full-on Monday with huge gusts and a tricky Tuesday with lightish winds and a strong flooding tide.

The Senior fleet (Juniors having raced separately) were divided into 4 groups: 11 Lasers, 5 Laser Radials, a 17 boat Solo fleet and a PY fleet that contained a heady mix of everything from a Laser Stratos to an RS Vareo.

PRO Jonathan Weeks assisted by Frank Seear did a fantastic job getting the fleets underway in spite of a few moments where the wind didn't want to behave itself.

Congratulations to the winners - Sue Thomas in the PY fleet, Henry Bower in the Radials, Sam Mogridge in the Laser Standards and Tim Johnson in the Solo Fleet.

A full list of the entries and results can be found at www.dartmouthweek.com/Entries-and-results if you select Senior fleet from the dropdown list.

As attention now moves to the yacht racing out in Start Bay, huge thanks must go to the event organiser Colin Holmes, Jonathan Weeks and his team, the safety boat crews and the all those who prepared and served the delicious food.
