Six Streakers competed in their open meeting on the River Waveney at Beccles Amateur SC on Sunday 15th June. The northerly breeze provided plenty of windward work against the tide and the day offered the perfect opportunity for tacking practice! In the first race Ian Bradley and Veronica Falat pulled ahead and had a great duel, with Veronica finishing just ahead. Meanwhile the two BASC boats were also having a close scrap, with Rowan Curtis beating Mark Langston by inches to claim third place. In race two Ian Bradley got clear and won with a comfortable lead, while Veronica came in second and Mark overtook Rowan on the final leg to steal third.

After lunch the final race saw Ian making the best start and leading to the first mark, only to come to a complete halt when his clew outhaul broke and his sail came off the boom. The rest of the fleet sailed happily past – but after a brief acquaintance with a reed bed, Ian managed to affect a repair and gave chase. Veronica and Mark were fighting for the lead, which Veronica secured just before the last mark and then covered Mark tack for tack up to the finish line. Ian worked his way to third place, just ahead of Rowan, with Gary Hogan in fifth.

This event was part of the Streaker Southern Paddle travellers series, sponsored by Pinnell & Bax. The current leader of the series is Mike Hobin from West Oxfordshire SC. Ian Bradley is in second place.
