JP Watersports RS200 Scottish Tour at Fisherrow Yacht Club

by Fiona Rigg 30 Apr 2014 19:00 NZST 27 April 2014

Unlucky for some but not the Scottish RS200s as 13 boats turned out for the opening event of the 2014 JP Watersports Scottish tour at Fisherrow Yacht Club on Sunday 27 April. A number of the fleet had already been put through their paces on Saturday following a training session expertly run by Graham and Vicki Tait (some might say Team Tait were just trying to tire everyone out before Sunday's racing - I couldn't possibly comment!)

The first race got underway without a hitch in a fairly steady F2. The fleet was bunched at the windward mark but Fiona Rigg, sailing with Liz Copland managed to find some pace downwind and take the lead by the bottom of the run. They held on to this until the finish, followed in 2nd by Team Tait and 3rd by Emily Robertson and Ewan Rycroft.

The wind had dropped slightly for race two. Ronnie Miller, ably crewed by Andrew Homer found the 'go' button and stormed off into the distance never to be seen again. Fiona/Liz pulled through to take 2nd with Stewart Teasdale and Andy Stewart hitting the right corners to take 3rd.

Race three and everyone was getting a little bit super keen so the race committee finally got to use their general recall flag. Some keen beans didn't quite get the message and a further individual recall followed at the second attempt but the race committee did a fine job at identifying the offenders so the fleet managed to get away. Ronnie and Andrew were on form again to take the gun. Team Tait recovering from their slightly under-par performance in race two finishing second and Emily/Ewan in 3rd.

With all three races to count consistency proved key with a 4th place in the final race being enough to give Fiona/Liz the overall event. Ronnie/Andrew edged ahead of Team Tait into 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Thanks must go again to Fisherrow Yacht Club for being fabulous hosts. Tim and Carol Jones chefing skills on Saturday night got many a compliment and the various club members who manned the galley, RIBs and committee boat all made the fleet feel very welcome. Thanks too to our sponsor JP Watersports for providing the prizes!

Next event the RS Scotland regatta at Port Edgar on 10/11 May - see you there!
