Solo Open at Kingsmead Sailing Club

by Jackie Lawton 16 Apr 2014 07:10 PDT 12 April 2014

Kingsmead Sailing Club hosted their annual Solo Open on Saturday 12th April in fine conditions with plenty of sunshine and reasonable winds.

They were pleased to have 6 visitors to more than double the home fleet of the popular single-handed Solo dinghy.

This was round two of the Thames Valley Travellers Series involving sailors from a wide range of clubs.

With three races to complete with each contestant's two best results to count there was a lot of sailing to pack in under the watchful eyes of the duty and safety crews.

There was some close and exciting racing with some threatened protests at the start of race two but the contestants settled their differences on the water.

An excellent lunch was enjoyed at the end of race one with the day rounded off with a great tea produced by the volunteers in Kingsmead's 5 star galley.

Congratulations go to Mike Dray from Littleton Sailing Club in first place overall. Kingsmead's Sue Taylor was the home club's highest placed sailor.

All in all it was a lovely day set in Kingsmead's perfect surroundings. You can visit the club to see what it has to offer and try sailing there for free at their Open Day on Saturday 10th May – visit www.kingsmeadsc.org.uk for more details.
