Solo Open at North Herts. and East Beds. Sailing Club

by Mike Clarke 15 May 2005 01:01 AEST 8 May 2005

14 boats including 5 home boats enjoyed good weather although the wind did shift and change - accentuated by the local land contours.

The first race had some technical difficulties with a late realisation that the committee boat was trying to anchor in the part of the lake that was 45 ft deep. A longer anchor line is on order! A wind shift then caused one mark to be windless and the first two through built up a considerable lead. Godfrey Clark had taken an early lead but had been unfortunately over the line. Brothers Liddington then battled for first with David pulling away from Andrew at the end.

Another windshift in race two made the beats into fetches and the race became a procession with Godfrey Clark leading and Steve Ede in second throughout.

Cliff Crawshaw stayed in first place in race three and took first overall with Steve Ede in second. David Liddington came through to third and took second overall.

The home club welcomed a laser sailor, Rob Butler, and provided him with a boat, but he then trounced the solo regulars to finish seventh overall. Such is gratitude.
