Weather delivers for season finale

For the final event of the RYA Scotland Feva Event Series the weather delivered some of the best conditions that we have seen all season.

A light to moderate westerly breeze and bright sunshine gave perfect conditions for all of the boats to work on spinnaker handling. After a briefing ashore Calum led the sailors onto the water for a busy morning session focusing on hoists and drops. The eight boats under spinnaker working on their gybing made a great sight from the shore with Portobello promenade busy in the summery weather.

After lunch the boats launched straight into a mini race series and were able to get three close races in over the course of the afternoon. In the first race Ewan / Finn made a good start and showed the fleet a clean pair of heels, making the most of the stronger wind offshore on the right hand side of the cause. Things did not go their way for the start of the second race with a bad start allowing Alexander / Greggor to lead round the windward mark. Good progress was made by Eilan / Ross allowing them to take the lead before being overtaken on the final beat by Ewan / Finn. Having taken the event with a race to spare Ewan / Finn still led the third race until spinnaker issues allowed Abbie / Fin to take the lead which they held to the finish. This gave Abbie / Fin second place overall behind Ewan / Fin with Eilan / Ross taking a well deserved third place overall.

With the RYA Scotland Feva Event Series now complete the next important event for the feva sailors is the Zone Championships at North Berwick Yacht Club on 28th / 29th September. After this we will be going into the recently launched Feva Academy programme with the first two events at Port Edgar and Largs Sailing Club on the 12th / 13th October and 16th / 17th November. More details are on the RYA Scotland website.
